DNS Rewrites per subdomain?

Is there are way to create dns rewrites that aren't for the entire domain? If not, is there a feature request page I could add this to?

For example, I would like to be able to do the following:

app1.mydomain.com ---> 10.0.1.1

app2.mydomain.com ---> 10.0.1.2

Having to rewrite the entire domain seems very limiting.

thanks for any help!

    Your example should be possible. What happens when you try putting them in the rewrites?

      it adds a leading .

      so it ends up looking like

      .app1.mydomain.com

      So it is rewriting the entire .app1.mydomain.com which isn’t helpful.

       Could you provide a further example of where it’s a problem for you. Or are you saying there’s a sub subdomain that’s to be handled differently?

      So my goal is to have subdomain rewrites to different local servers. I can’t do this with the way NextDNS handles rewrites, as it will only allow the entire domain.

      so if I want to rewrite

      search.briandomain.com to 10.0.1.1

      and

      rescue.briandomain.com go 10.0.1.2

      I cannot. When adding rewrites, it will only let me adD the entire domain. So in the example about it will let me rewrite *.search.briandomain.com but not just search.briandomain.com

      I am now having to use AdGuard which allows what I am after, I just don’t understand why this isn’t an option for NextDNS.

      even tho it says *.search.briandomain.com, search.briandomain.com is also rewritten. Just enter the domain and IPs of your example in the rewrite and it will do what you are expecting it to do.
