Temporarily disable filtering

Before I migrated from Pi-hole, there was an option to disable blocking for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 5 minutes, etc. I was able to use that for troubleshooting.

E.g. to identify if Pi-hole was causing a problem, uBO, or the website was having a problem. Pain having to change DNS to verify if a blocklist is causing it.

When something isn't working on my wife's computer, I have to go through log and start adding some things that could be a problem, wait for TTL, and see if that fixes it. World be great if we could have a disable button per profile so that it just acts as a resolver without any blocking (basically, same as if a free user goes over 300,000 queries in over month).

While there are workarounds for this, the inability to disable all NextDNS filtering with the click of a button in the web UI is the one thing holding me back from fully committing to NextDNS and attempting to convince all of my friends and family to use it as well. 馃槄

Created an account specifically to vote for this. Unfortunately NextDNS is unusable for me without this feature.

Is there a way to vote for this feature request officially?

Yes this is HIGHLY needed. I use NextDNS CLI on my Firewalla and the only UI way to bypass NextDNS is to start a VPN on my computer so that NextDNS is bypassed. I should not need to do that. NextDNS needs some type of bypass feature, be it at the device level or global.

Possible Solution: Add wildcard (*) to override any rules, for example to allow any .com domains, enter (*.com) to the allowlist which will override all denylist rules which should fix all websites for most people (add country specific domains as required).

I really hope this is going to be implemented. Few levels of 'pause' would be perfect:

    1) Pause all functionality (clear state)

    2) Pause privacy/security/etc. features

    3) Pause usage of certain blocklists individually

Also a reminder on the main page that something is paused would be perfect too.

Maybe even an option to pause temporarily: with a timeout (15 min, 1 hour) or until the specific datetime (until tomorrow 2:00 PM).

So it's 2023 now. It's been years. Is this on the roadmap?

It would be great to disable filtering per device and/or disable filtering for X amount of time.

I have installed two profiles on each of my devices (iPhone/iPad/MacBock,...). A profile has all filters activated a second profile only a few security features.

In order to temporarily deactivate the NextDNS filter, I can therefore switch the profiles accordingly in the device settings or thus switch off the filter.

Unfortunately, this is a bit cumbersome on a MacBook, for this I'm looking for a faster switch... if anyone has an idea how to change the filters of the network faster?

On my iPhone/iPad I created a shortcut on my home screen that takes me very quickly to the right settings, that's ok.

    Bump.

This is a necessity. Yes, the allowlist will override something being blocked, I get that. Yes, I could create a shortcut, etc., but that's not a real solution. There needs to be a browser extension or the like to quickly allow for this.

    +1.

I use the NextDNS apps on macOS and iOS, which just have "enable" and "disable" functions. I would love it if they had "disable for 5 minutes" (or a few time options, as suggested above).

I occasionally need to disable for a one-off website to make a purchase or something, and often forget to re-enable. This would be a huge help.

+1. Being able to isolate issues quickly is a staple of using Pi-hole / uBlock Origin

Also the ability to turn it off for one device would be cool.

I will cancel and switch to ControlD or AdGuard if we don't get something before my subscription lapses. It's frustrating to unsubscribe from an email list, get blocked, and have to log in and manually allow some random URL.

There should be a switch I can turn on or off or a setting to disable it for X minutes, like most similar services. I don't understand why NextDNS does not.

You're right. In some part NextDNS is really good, but new features are not on their top lists.

Same with youth protection categories - nearly all of them 2 years old and not working anymore.

I found this app to be a lifesaver, but it requires a one time ADB command:

While this would be useful for cases where you manually set the dns field to the nextdns one, I think if you use nextdns app or iOS profile for example, you can just disable the nextdns profile.  That is what I do for  my windows pc or iOS device which then allows me to default to my isp dns.

This is a really needed feature. Don't forget that there are users (e.g. kids) who can't just turn filtering off.

I don't think anyone is asking for a button to turn all filtering off, just to temporarily disable the privacy filters (as those are the ones which can break links/sites).

My wife and I can do this (somewhat clumsily) by signing into my.nextdns.io and removing the block list from the Privacy tab (and then adding it back when done), but for obvious reasons, that's not something I'm going to give my kids the ability to do - they need a way of doing it from the app.
