NextDNS & ProtonVPN

NextDNS doesn't allow any connections through when I activated it on Windows 10 while ProtonVPN is running. I have to disable NextDNS and the connection will resume as normal.

How can I have this fixed with both being nice to each other? I'm using the official applications for both.

You have to deactivate the blocking option of "Workarounds"

Thomas HUGO Hi, thanks for your response. But what 'workarounds' are you referring to?

Thomas HUGO Don't worry, your English is fine! I'm just not sure where I can find those bypass methods, I checked ProtonVPN & played with it till my fingers dropped...still no solution. :(

So you don't get DNS working when connected to Proton right?

For me on Windows 11 it worked like a charm so re-installing the VPN might help, it seems odd though.

Hey I'm not getting anything at all, unless I disable NextDNS w/VPN on then it works. Or vice versa, can't have both working at all.

Geekistan That's odd, have you tried re-installing them both just in-case. Also if Proton doesn't work in the first place when you're using NextDNS as Thomas said you should turn of Block Bypass Methods in Parental Controls as it blocks VPN/Proxy domains to do what the name suggests.

Hey Yeah tried all the methods, still didn't work. The Block Bypass Methods is off by default as well.

Do the NextDNS support check this forum or is it just for us to tell DNS war stories?

Geekistan They do check the forums from what I've seen yeah. You could try using YogaDNS and see if that works (https://yogadns.com/) like I've said though its odd as I haven't had a single issue on Windows 11 so could be something to do with Windows 10 and Proton.

Apparently, support doesn't check the forum nor do they check Reddit.

This doesn't give a good impression for a first time user.
