“This device is using NextDNS with another profile” after turning off on Ubuntu

On Ubuntu 22.04 I get the message “This device is using NextDNS with another profile” after “nextdns stop”.

The same happens when using a VPN except the DNS address  (according to ipleak.net) is now 45.142.244.191 Misaka Network Inc.

In Google Chrome Settings > Privacy and security

      Use secure DNS - On

Select DNS provider - OS default (when available)

With Incognito mode there is the same issue as well.

Turn off secure DNS and try testing again.

Changing the setting to disable secure DNS had no effect.

BTW only with the VPN active does the DNS address 45.142.244.191 appear in the ipleak page as the DNS server detected.

When the VPN is off the DNS server is presumably that provided my by ISP.

Either way there is still the message in the Setup on NextDNS “This device is using NextDNS with another profile”.

This is with nextdns status stopped on the CLI.
