Disconnection Issues Using the App and the Apple Generated Profile

Hello team, i have been having multiple disconnections lately with NextDNS using the app and the apple generated profile.

Once in a while, when browsing, I notice that ads are NOT getting blocked.

After performing the test.nextdns.io, it is indeed not connected. Even though i am using a profile.

The same happens with the app.

The App is On, but sometimes not connecting.

It seems that seems the process that is always running in the background to connect me to the nearest server dies somewhere after sometime.

I even tested using a local vpn version and native version (using AdGuard Pro, by adding my config id link via DOH) and it is not resolving after some time.

There is no log to provide since the app and the generated apple profile has no log. And AdGuard’s log is not really helpful, since blocking is an network level.

Anyone else having issues?

I don’t have this issue in other DNS Providers (Quad9, cloudflare and adGuard)

In the app, please try disabling Ultra Low Latency Network.

Sure. I’ll test again and report back. I think it does do ULL but somehow got stuck or dies somewhere.

The only problem i have with ULL off is when i move from Wifi to Mobile.

Using my Wifi, Anycast is GSL-Melb and Zetta-Per. This is ok. Both are fast!

Using Mobile (Optus) Anycast is GSL-Melb Anycast 1 and Zepto-Lax Anycast 2

50% of the time it goes to Zepto-Lax Anycast 2 with 200ms. So sometimes its tad too slow...

I reported this a while back why Anycast 2 is connecting to Zepto -Lax which is Los Angeles...

Lady Arwen we are trying to fix the lax issue. Apparently Optus has a lot of issues lately, not sure what is going on with them.

Olivier Poitrey Thanks! I’ve disabled ULL for now. And will report back if i have disconnections again. Hopefully not! And hopefully the Lax issue is fixed too.

Olivier Poitrey have you fixed the AnyCast 2 using Optus Mobile? Yesterday and earlier this morning, i was consistently connected to AnyCast 2 - Zepto-Lax and it was 319ms. It was slow. I need to turn nextdns off.

i’ve tried turning on and off and on again and it is still with AnyCast 2 - Zepto - Lax.

Can you you please to change the Anycast 2 connection to Anywhere here in Australia? Like Sydney or Perth or Brisbane? We have so many servers here, but its connecting to Anycast 2 - Zepto Lax. Anycast 1 is GSL-Melb(which is good) but it’s inconsistent...

I haven’t had any disconnection issues though turning ULL off. But i need to test more.

      Please help! 😔😞

Olivier Poitrey have you fixed the AnyCast 2 always connecting which is now amexia - ams (previously it was Zepto-lax, but this is worst that before).  Just now, i have been constantly connected to it instead of Anycast 1 which is GSL-Melb.

The connection is at 428ms in anexia-ams

can you please point Anycast 2 within Australia? Either Zetta-Per or vultr-syd or gsl-syd or something in brisbane?

this only happens using Optus Mobile.

by the way, i dont have disconnections anymore when ULL is off, but i really hope Anycast 2 is routed here in Australia so that its faster,

Olivier Poitrey I'm also seeing this behavior and often need to toggle NextDNS off and on again via app on Mac. Is there a way to disable ULL from the Mac app? I can't use the profile, because it's not possible with any other active network extension (e.g., from Little Snitch).

Chris please provide a https://nextdns.io/diag. ULL is unlikely to be an issue.

One more thing to mention. When I lose connectivity even though the app is enabled, I can see that there is no IP shown in network preferences (see screenshots). It sometimes shows up, then disappears again. But even when it shows up for a while, my internet is still dead. This can last 5-15 minutes. Sometimes quitting the NextDNS app and restarting helps.

Other times, I get the black warning status that no configuration is used.

NextDNS this keeps happening more than 3 times a day. A few minutes ago again, I was getting status unconfigured / device not using NextDNS, even though the app is enabled / connected. As mentioned above, sometimes internet connectivity is completely lost, this time it wasn't, using ISP DNS instead.

IP address missing from network preferences again.

      Help, please?

     Do you use a VPN?

I know NextDNS does not work with a VPN, but it also does not turn back on when I disable the VPN.
