NextDNS for Routers issues

I used the script to install the NextDNS for Routers. Confirmed service was running, however you can see from the chart, less than 10% of queries were blocked by the CLI. I removed the CLI, reverted back to dns-over-tls and now about 50% of queries blocked.

Router is a Asus rt-ax58u

Firmware is fully updated

Cli is fully updated

I'm also noticing that the total volume of queries doubled by removing the CLI, primarily increasing in denied queries. That makes me wonder if denied queries were being blocked before they were sent to the DNS.

I would love to know if anyone else is using the CLI, and their experience. Here is a link for anyone that is unfamiliar witht the CLI.

Updated chart: 6 days of CLI then 1 day of dns-over-tls.

This could be simply the result of the CLI caching the requests (blocked and allowed). It may be blocking the same amount but not sending the requests upstream every time.

Did you notice any ads getting through with the CLI?

I do notice more adds getting through via the CLI as compared to dns-tls, but no way to quantity. I also noticed some errors when checking the status of the cli, but don't know how to resolve.

That looks like something else is listening on port 53 at the time. Is setup router set in the nextdns config file?

I'm not sure how to do that, so I guess I'm missing something

To check your config file simply enter “nextdns config” and it will print out, on screen, line by line the saved config file. Then look through for the line “setup-router”, hopefully it will have “true” next to it.
