Issues with anycast routing
Hello,
I noticed that when using anycast or using the IPv4/v6 DNS I am routed through France (zepto-fra) instead of Bucharest (edis-buh, anexia-buh). I still have some legacy devices where I want to put the DNS with IP and this affects my performance so I hope it can be resolved.
I've submitted the DIAG report here: https://nextdns.io/diag/5f41b2b0-ce1c-11ec-beee-79c1209a66cf
Thank you

Fra is not France, it is Frankfurt. All the names use IATA designations. You can find the names here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_airports_by_IATA_and_ICAO_code
The ultralow location only works for DoH / DoT
Romania only have ultralow, not anycast.
RCS & RDS have node connection in Frankfurt.
A blink takes between 100–400 ms so anything below this can't affect your device performance.
DNS is not involved in the apps, pages all the time. Once the address was resolved in the ip the DNS is not doing anything anymore.
Most likely it is a problem with your Wi-Fi signal.
The router / Ont should be placed ideally in the middle of the area (unless you use Wi-Fi repeaters) you use the devices at a hight of 1-1.5 meters. Set the standard above 802.11 b (b, g, n, ac, ax). Use n and up if possible. Set the channel width to 20 MHz, 40 MHz only works in isolated places or if you are close to the device. You can check the signal with some free apps and manually select the best channel to use. In apartments buildings with so many wireless devices it is a problem this days to have good and constant signal, especially in buildings with reinforced concrete. The Wi-Fi it is also affected by the Bluetooth, microwave ovens etc.
The more distance and objects (furniture etc.) you have between the router and device the bigger the latency.

Thanks for the info. I have a very fast WiFi 6 (Asus AX-88U) and a Gigabit connection so this is not the issue. From my tests, the location of the DNS server influences the location used by some CDNs and I get worse performance with streaming and downloading.
Is there a way to use the Romania utlralow DNS with legacy IPv4/IPv6? For example can I use these IPs directly: ipv4-edis-buh-1.edge.nextdns.io 194.68.44.147 / ipv6-edis-buh-1.edge.nextdns.io 2a03:f80:40:194:68:44:147:1
