WiFi disconnected 3 times in the first week of using NextDNS

I’ve been using NextDNS for a week and my WiFi connection dropped randomly three times… it comes back when I reset the router but it is really annoying especially when it once happened I was on a Microsoft teams call at work.

Haven’t had that issue before applying NextDNS to my devices. Even though my WiFi hasn’t been perfect, it would never just randomly drop three times in a week!!

I don’t know why would NextDNS trigger this? Some please help me?

I have a few devices set up to private DNS in settings (iPhone, two android phones, tablet and work laptop - my work phone and laptop are on separate NextDNS profile) plus I also set DNS IP address to my NextDNS on router level. The only device that doesn’t have private DNS settings is my partner’s PC. Is there anything wrong with the set up I have? Should I perhaps get rid of router level DNS setting and only apply private DNS in devices’ settings?

I even got rid of all blocklists I’ve had to see if that was the problem but it hasn’t changed anything. I only have two domains blocked and a few white listed (NextDNS was messing up with Paramount+ so had to white list a few domains to be able to stream properly). My main reason for using NextDNS is to block porn content and that’s the only filter I have on right now.

I would appreciate any advice please…

I very much doubt that it has anything to do with NextDNS. More likely to be a coincidence of circumstances.

You should really be on the lookout for a replacement WiFi router or at least make a list of possible ones. When WiFi becomes a bit flaky it could be a sign of pre-failure.

thank you for your answer :) Yes I don’t want to think it’s because of NextDNS but it happened again last night after just 24h of resetting the router last time…

is there anything I could try to do to confirm this is or isn’t NextDNS fault?
I have been considering removing router level NextDNS and setting it to open dns family shield like I used to and then apply next dns on phones and computers in network settings as private DNS - would this be a better option for internet stability?

You could try that, yes. Somewhat unlikely it will make any improvement.

One quick question, where have you set the NextDNS DNS IPs on the router?

it hasn’t help, the wifi stopped working on all devices with next dns set as private dns but worked fine on my work devices that didn’t have it set up…

In my router settings the next dns ip (my profile specific ip) is set in WAN and LAN settings

im losing it now because the internet connection got even worse and dropped after 12h of resetting the router, I might have to look for a more stable dns provider I don’t know

Hmm... Could you try removing the DNS IPs from the WAN end. It's usually only the router itself doing DNS lookups.

This type of behavior can be made my intrusive ISP through their OEM modem routers.

Try toggling the Ultra-Low Network option.
