Turning on NextDNS on Chromebook makes web inaccessible

I've been trying to troubleshoot this for a while now and it's really perplexing. When I enable the NextDNS VPN on my chromebook I stop being able to load any websites. As soon as I turn VPN off I can access sites again.

Is this a known issue?

    NextDNS isn't a VPN but DNS service.T

    That's why it doesn't works.

    See apple.nextdns.io

Not sure what you mean – when you install the NextDNS chrome extension it's toggle on and off via ChromeOS's VPN setting. iOS configuration profiles aren't applicable here (unless I'm missing something).

I believe I read another user's post reference that chromebooks use Google DNS by default, have you checked your native dns settings?
