Problems with Private DNS on Android

Hi, I'm new to NextDNS and i'm trying to configure it.

I noticed a problem when I enable NextDNS both on my router and on my phone. I get a message error telling me "Failed to connect to the private DNS server..." and i'm unable to connect to any website.

When i disable NextDNS on my router, everything works flawlessly. I even tried to disable the "Block Bypass Methods" option but it keeps happening.

Any ideas?

After you disable the block bypass method, try rebooting the router to make sure nothing is cached

Yes, it also happens to me. Its usually occurs when NestDNS take some more time (than usual) to connect or in other wordings 'when our device take time to connect with the DNS'.

I ignore this notification, and the DNS connects after some time (may be after 10 to 15 seconds). I have now disabled the notification.

**But it should not occur and should connect immediately. I tried OpenDNS, it connects immediately but can not block Ads.**

Check if your router or ISP blocks port 853. Private DNS on android using DoT running on port 853.

I ran into this problem when setting up my sons phone on our kids network... I whitelisted the DNS server IP addresses and it works. The Content Filtering was blocking the private dns that Unifi was using... pretty easy work around.
