NextDNS not working with Red / SFR mobile provider

Hi,

For a couple of weeks now, I have not been able to use NextDNS on my phone using Cellular data, with RED (SFR) provider in France.

Everything used to work fine, I am using the Private DNS feature of Android 12. I have also tried the app.

Everything seems to work fine using WiFi. I have contacted SFR but they say there are no restrictions in place regarding NextDNS. Adguard/Quad Nine etc.. seem to work fine.

Do you have any info about this issue ?

Thanks

What do you get if you visit https://ping.nextdns.io from your phone with nextdns disabled?

NextDNS  this is not related to that provider but because of the phone.  Next DNS was working with my Xiaomi 11 , bit not working with my oppo on mobile data , working great on wifi.

Ps : I don't use the app but private DNS options

David cole maybe you should hide your NextDNS TLS adress in your screenshot. It can be use by anyone coming here.

Hi, sorry for the late answer, I have the same ping output as above.

Everything works except the combination NextDNS + Cellular data.

Anyone else with these problems running GrapheneOS ? or using a Pixel phone ?

    Hello guys,

I have the same issue on my one plus 10 with Android 12. I have tried 1.1.1.1 private dns and it's work fine.

    Hi !

    Same problem here.

Since 2 monthes, no internet on cellular data with french SFR provider when NextDNS (DoT link) is set on private DNS. Problem occured on Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G (sim card slot), Google Pixel 6 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 11. All devices running on android 12.

    Everything is OK on Wifi.

I paid a 1 year suscription for NextDNS services and it doesn't work anymore. :(

No answer or solution from NextDNS Team on this topic.

So I moved to adguard custom DNS plateform (DNS + VPN) : everything is ok on all my devices with wifi or cellular.

    Hi !

I already tried several DoT providers (Opendns, Cleanbrowsing, Cloudflare, Adguard...).

Everything is ok on my mobiles devices over wifi AND cellular with their settings :

    https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/4418984676756-DNS-Over-TLS-Opendns

    https://cleanbrowsing.org/guides/dnsovertls/

    https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/setup/

The issue is related to NextDNS when their DoT parameters are manually set on my devices and used on cellular : it seems like all trafic is blocked once private dns setting is activate with the NextDNS DoT link on 4G/5G.

It also works with the NextDNS Android app on wifi and cellular but i don't want to intall the app on the devices.

I contated the SFR provider technical service and they said they don't have any restrictions through DNS provider on mobile datas and they only suggested to change the DNS provider.

I made an other test last weeks : i installed a celular usb modem (SFR simcard) on my Synology router which supports Dual Wan (load balance and failover. When switching on celullar datas with DoH activated in router network settings, the connection could be established and shared over wifi.

So DoH seems to work flawlessly.

The fact is that i'm very disappointed with the lack of support of NextDNS Team for paid subscribers so i already moved to Adguard custom DNS service that is working fine no matter the device is.

i have the same issue with Red-By-SFR.

xxxx.dns.nextdns.io doesnt work, but with default dns i can resolve the domain xxxx.dns.nextdns.io

    i don't have issue with other private DNS : one.one.one.one and dns.quad9.net

more than 6 months later, I try and it works again. I haven't changed anything, Pixel 6 Pro, Red by SFR. I restarted my smartphone twice to make sure it was real 🙂 I hope it's for good 😉
