Unable to get IP automated linking working (Mullvad VPN + NextDNS)

Not a network guru (just privacy concerned), but got Mullvad VPN working next to NextDNS. I prefer to keep both. I use Windows 11 (and Android) and my router is an ASUS (with registered DDNS). All connections are WiFi and my ISP is IPv4.

The issue on my W11 PC is that in the current status I have to always start up my browser (Brave), go to the NextDNS profile settings and manually click "Linked IP". I understand that using DDNS should be a solution for automated IP linking (required every time I boot up my PC).

However, when I fill in my (registered) DDNS hostname I get this message: "For security reasons, when adding a Dynamic DNS the IP address returned by the DDNS hostname should be the same as your current IP address".

What does this mean and how to get around this? 

Note: I have the NextDNS DNS servers manually setup in my router ("WAN DNS" and "LAN DHCP server DNS and WINS server" but this should not mater as I use WiFi only nowadays), is this creating the issue?

    Where's Mullvad running on? If it's not running on your ASUS router, then of course you won't get the same IP for the DDNS.

    Windows 11 have native DoH support, you can just enable it (see the guide in your NextDNS dashboard) and I've just tested it and confirmed it works when I enabled my VPN through OpenVPN & WireGuard (test it with curl, not nslookup, and check your NextDNS logs). If the Mullvad client doesn't honor the Windows 11 DoH setting, just install either the WireGuard/OpenVPN standard client and load your Mullvad config to it.

       Thanks for explaining why it does not work in my config, I indeed run Mullvad on my PC (I have reasons for not running on my router). I already have W11 DoH enabled so I already know this does not work with Mullvad.

      I will check out how to install Mullvad config via WireGuard on my W11 PC now #learningeveryday.
