NextDNS blocks local hostnames

I have few VM and server on the network, using my profile, the machines using the hostname (asami or asami.local) is not responding:

$ host asami 
host asami not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

When I disable NextDNS:

$ host transmission                                                                                                                                                
asami.local has address 192.168.<edited>.<edited>

When I configure nextDNS in the same machine then the DHCP server (my pi-hole), it all works, but not directly on the machine.
