Much request

I have only two Apple devices (iPhone + iPad) in use for a profile. Here are very many requests to gateway.icloud.com.

Could you observe the same on your Apple devices?

The TTL of that domain is relatively short, only about 2 minutes top. Every time an iDevice queries it if it got IPv6 it would send three queries (A, AAAA, and HTTPS), so with two devices if something keeps querying the server in an hour you can quickly get 180 requests from your two devices. Typically though, an awake iDevice merely queries them around four times an hour (a total of twelve queries each hour per device).

Enabling cache boost might help a bit, by forcing the TTL into 5 minutes minimum, so that should cut down the queries by about 50% or so. Note while the analytics page count all queries, for quota purpose (assuming you're on free plan) each group are counted as one query.

Thanks for your answer and explanation.

Then this is within the normal range. Cache Boost is enabled, when I look at the statistics for the last 24 hours for only one iPhone, the request to gateway.icloud.com is over 500.

Very normal, but the #1 reason that I want to be able to filter/exclude specific domains from the logs. I want to exclude every *.apple.com and *iCloud.com entry because with an Apple-heavy fleet, the logs are almost useless otherwise.

Content aside
