Intermittent outage on macOS

Hi,

I've the NextDNS app installed on macOS, and I've also manually configured the router in my home network to use NextDNS's servers and advertise those via DHCP. So I should be using my NextDNS profile for sure. However, recently I started noticing ads appearing on websites. I found out that when I disable an re-enable NextDNS via the macOS menu bar icon, the ads disappear again. However, after a while I start seeing ads again on websites.

I'd love to hear if others recognize this behavior and if there's a fix or work around available.

Best,

Bart

Do you have the Apple Private Relay feature on?

No, that's off on my machine.

    I just tested with https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html.

When I started it reported that only 3% of the ads and trackers was blocked. Then I disabled the NextDNS app via the menubar item. I reloaded and now 92% was blocked. After enabling the NextDNS app again, it stays at 92% on re-run.

I think this is what happens: there's something wrong with the app, causing it to fall back to using a normal DNS provider sometimes. When I then disable the app, macOS falls back on the network configuration and then my router, that's also configured to use NextDNS, successfully uses the right config again. Then when I re-enable the app, it seems to pick up the right behavior again.

@NextDNS. It's been a couple of days since I posted this. Will there be some follow up? I'm a paying customer and I'm getting really annoyed by seeing those adds pop up everywhere.
