iOS 12 and mobileconfig

Hi

I've tried to use apple.nextdns.io to generate a profile for my son's iPhone 6 (max software iOS 12.5.7)

The profile loads, but on examination, says contains 'Unknown Payload'

Is this a limitation of iOS 12 not recognising com.apple.dnsSettings.managed ?

Ie is there a minimum version of iOS that works with these mobileconfig settings ?

I'm using the nextDNS app, but I think he can easily turn this off by going to General/VPN/delete VPN...

iOS 14 and newer for the Apple profile. Only option is to use apps with local vpn solution, they should still work (including NextDNS app).

thanks. Any way to use the DNS Proxy option in the profile ?

The VPN apps can be disabled from Settings (even if you put a passcode on NextDNS app)

If you don't want your son to easily disable the profile, you must use the Apple Configurator to enable supervision on the device. This will then wipe the device before booting to a clean config where you can set ProhibitDisablement on the profile you install. With supervision, you can also limit what apps and functionalities he can use.

Thanks, I've done this; the problem is that with iOS 12 (trying to use an old phone lying around rather than getting him a new one !) it doesn't recognise com.apple.dnsSettings.managed

So he can't disable the profile, but the profile doesn't do anything :)

As mentioned, the app works, and can be locked out with a PIN, however if he or a friend wise up to it, then can just go into settings and disable it from there...
