Ultralow steering routes Angola to Lagos (~263 ms) while anycast reaches Johannesburg (~80 ms)
Hi NextDNS team,
I'm based in Lobito, Angola, and I'm seeing a steering issue with the ultralow network.
Observed behaviour:
- Via Tailscale (NextDNS integration, which appears to use anycast): resolved by a Johannesburg PoP, ~80 ms.
- Via the NextDNS iOS app with Ultralow enabled: steered to a Nigeria (Lagos) PoP, ~263 ms.
Both tests were done on the same network: Unitel 5G/ZAP FIBRA, Wi-Fi and mobile data, IPv4.
It looks like the ultralow steering for Angola favours Lagos, São Paulo etc, even though the network path from Angola to Johannesburg is significantly faster. Could you review the steering for Angolan networks ASN: AS37645 - ZAP FIBRA; AS37119 - UNITEL 3G, 4G, 5G e UNITEL FIBRA; AS36907 - TV CABO e AS328943 - AFRICELL ANGOLA, so that Johannesburg is preferred?
All other providers like controld or cloudflare use Johannesburg and they are faster compared with ultralow from nexdns...
Diagnostics:

Thanks,
Miguel
