Using NextDNS with a VPN

I use IVPN as my VPN provider, and I'm having trouble getting the two to work together properly. IVPN has a custom DNS I can use, but I disabled it to use NextDNS, but now the problem is that every time my IP changes, there is no way for NextDNS to automatically detect the change in IP address on my phone or PC. Since the Android app utilizes the VPN on Android, I would be unable to use IVPN, I don't know if that is supposed to be how to automatically detect the changes or not, but the CLI app on Linux doesn't seem to do that. So, what are my options to use both my VPN and NextDNS at once?

    Private DNS for Android enforces usage of NextDNS other than a few minor apps like Hotspot Shield that can bypass the said Private DNS option.

    For Windows the app would enforce it's DNS unless another app like again Hotspot Shield gets past it.

    For cases where you don't have these options DoT/DoH/DoQ will be your best bet as they don't need your IP to be linked.

      Hey I have NextDNS on my Android device; however, it isn't using my specific configuration since the IP addresses often don't match. I would have to go to my NextDNS config and re-link the IP address manually every time my IP changes, and that goes with my PC too.

      Rusty Shackleford Sorry for not replying earlier, I've been quite busy with life in general trying to get a job etc and now had the time on the weekend.

      On Android, you can use Private DNS, since it uses DoT it won't need an IP link to function this goes for anything that uses Encrypted DNS, DoH/DoQ etc. DoH is what Windows uses with the NextDNS app as well as iOS devices with their configs.

      So by using Private DNS and the NextDNS app on Windows you should have worry free syncing as well as using NextDNS.

      For example I use a VPN to bypass a few things that my new training office has and NextDNS works flawlessly on Android 11 with the Private DNS option.

    So I setup the DNS for my phone through my settings instead of the app and now at least so far it appears to let both keep running lol. Thanks for the configuration info and answers aswell 🙂

      Scratch that worked for a minute then nothing lol so just going to stick with nextdns lol
