More than one iPad?

Guys I'm just starting with NextDNS,  and I've got it running on my Apple Mac Mini, my iPhone and two IPads. It all seems to be working okay, but.....;

Looking in the Analytics Dashboard both iPads (a Pro and a Mini) are reported as 'iPad' with the device name underneath, that name being the last device that was used. The names are being sent back perfectly but register as a single entry. Is there not a way to see the traffic from each individual device?

If this is an issue it'll be a big problem if it applies to multiple. iPhones, Macs, etc.

I'm hoping there is a solution.

    To see each device separately in NextDNS, you can set up a unique profile. This helps NextDNS track them individually in the dashboard. Alternatively, custom DNS settings on each device might also fix this issue.

    How did you setup the iPads to use NextDNS?

       Both were set up using the iOS NextDNS app with my 'id' pasted into place. Settings were set to send my device name to NextDNS.

      I didn't use the profile generator as it does not list the iPhone 16 xx models. I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

       Hmm… the app should be giving a different device ID (not to be confused with device name) for each iPad (which should result in you being able to distinguish between them in analytics and logs).

      Just to check, are there two listed in the drop down device filter or only one?

      Another thing to check/change, in the settings on each of the iPads under General->About->name, are they both saying iPad or something unique to each?

       That is indeed the case when I go to the logs portion of the dashbaord and filter. I've now switched to using the profiles to configure as that does give me a better name to work with.

      However that has a different 'ID' from that used my the 'App' so I've now got two entries for each device.  Equally annoying!

      To solve the latter would deleting the logs reset everything? Worse case I know, but it looks like it's not possible to delete logs from a single device?

       Yes, unfortunately that is the only way, either deleting logs or changing the logs retention length to drop off the old device IDs.

       you can also just wait until the old devices drop off the logs.   I find the analytics were interesting when first starting out but over time a clear pattern emerges and they’re less useful.   I use the most recent logs for troubleshooting and almost never look very far back
