Wrong country routing increasing latency

Located in Australia on an Australian ISP and the last ~month have been routing via Hong Kong or Japan. I'm unclear why this is happening now.  Results below demonstrate Japan, last week it was Hong Kong.

This impacts latency and other QoL factors.

Results from https://ping.nextdns.io/

  zetta-syd 13 ms (ultralow1)
  gsl-syd 14 ms
  vultr-syd 15 ms (ultralow2)
  zetta-bne 26 ms
  vultr-mel 27 ms
  gsl-mel 27 ms
  anexia-bne 32 ms
  zetta-adl 42 ms
  anexia-per 62 ms
  zetta-per 69 ms
■ vultr-tyo 232 ms (anycast2)
  zepto-hkg 249 ms (anycast1)

Please assist?

I reported a latency issue two days ago and still haven't received a response. There are many unanswered questions on this forum, which seems odd.
