When using DNS-over-TLS/QUIC or DNS-over-HTTPS, the DNS details are number.dns.nextdns.io or https://dns.nextdns.io/number

 

How does the device know what the initial IP address is?

    It is using your system’s resolver to resolve the DoH or DoT hostname, unless the client supports/use a bootstrap IP.
