Setting Windows browsers to use Secure DNS

Hi.  I have completed the set up for NextDNS and it has been working well for a couple of weeks.  I have not yet followed the steps in the setup guide for setting browsers to use Secure DNS (see below).  Best I can tell, Chrome is already using DOH, although possibly not forcing it to NextDNS.

In any case, it will take quite some time and maintenance to update all browsers for all users on all my computers.   Could someone please explain to me what this browser setup does for me?  I presume it avoids some sort of circumvention?

Thanks.

Brad

The app makes the entire system in this case your PC/Laptop etc use the DNS but requires an app. For Browser setup, you don't need to install an app but it only gets the browser queries. It's mostly preference based but I use the app as it blocks some  Windows tracking on my end.

Hey Thanks.  So with the NextDNS app installed it is not necessary to set up the individual browsers as all DNS requests are already being directed to the NextDNS servers.

I guess I don't understand then why the Setup Guide suggests setting the browsers to use NextDNS' Secure DNS?  Seems there must be some advantage to doing so?

Brad Miller The advantage is it's app-less, you don't need to install anything but they both use DoH from what I know so technically speaking shouldn't have any differences.

Brad Miller  The setup guide doesn't explicitly suggest setting up browsers; there are recommendations depending on the setup type (which show the blue "Recommended" sticker) but there are no general recommendations for "Chrome OS" nor for "Browsers" under the "Setup Guide"; the other types each have a single recommendation though
