In US, but “public DNS” address is reporting Greece

I have DNS over TLS set up on my router on my corporate VPN uses the public DNS address to figure out the closest VPN server. Even though I’m in the US, I recently noticed some big VPN slowdowns and discovered that my “Public DNS Address” is 37.252.234.177, which is a server located in Greece.

This looks like a recent config change for NextDNS. Is there anything that can be done to get my public dns address assigned to a closer host? My only alternative is to disable NextDNS on all devices using the VPN.

Ok, so I think my real question is: why is Athens being picked for me? Here are my ping results and my test.nextdns.io lists the Athens server as the one used

I think I have two problems.

First of all, my router seems to always pick the *worst* of the two DNS servers listed with DNS-over-TLS.  When I removed the "dns2" entry, it defaulted back to using vultr-sjc.

The second problem: Why is anycast2 defaulting to Athens in the first place?  It should be vultr-sea as anycast1 and vultr-sjc as anycast2.

Something seems to be wrong with the servers if it's trying to use the Athens instance at all.

I think you can do the following. I can tell you a website where you can copy the name of one of the servers you need in the US and simply enter it into the settings. This way, I think you'll be setting where your requests will go yourself, rather than the system automatically sending them.
