NextDNS with its local VPN, how to do it?
I'm going crazy. I want to set up NextDNS with a local VPN and not a private DNS, but I can't seem to figure it out. What do I do?
I installed the app, now what? I'm using Android

What VPN, what app?
Not every VPN allow you to set up and use custom DNS. AdGuard VPN allow you to do this.
Also if you want to use local VPN only for filtering you can use AdGuard app in which you can also set NextDNS as DNS with encrypted DNS (DoH, DoT, DoQ and even DoH3).
They can even work together in integrated mode. Since the AdGuard app run as a VPN on non rooted devices the eventual VPN must run in Socks5. (Settings - Filtering - Network - Proxy - Proxy server)
The free versions have some limitations.

AdGuard VPN - Settings - General - DNS server - scroll to the bottom Add custom DNS server - whatever name you want and as a server follow the instructions and use the links from my.nextdns.io - Setup.
h3://dns.nextdns.io/YourID/DeviceName DoH3
quic://DeviceName-YourID.dns.nextdns.io DoQ
tls://DeviceName-YourID.dns.nextdns.io DoT

So initially you said you want to use it with a VPN and not private DNS and now you are asking what is already explained in the Setup Guide on my.nextdns.io?!

NextDNS doesn't have an official app anymore, it used to but it was dropped. You can search for the original older apk or there are some alternative apps. I saw some posted here on this forum but I didn't tried any.
I don't understand why you don't want to set it up in private DNS but it is your business.
There are other apps that allow you to do what the AdGuard DNS app is doing and you can use any service you want. The problem remains, you can't have 2 VPN connections at the same time in Android, so if you use DNS thru VPN you can't run a VPN at the same time. Private DNS remove this issue.

They usually warn you with this message:
"Make sure private DNS is disabled in Android network settings."Do you know any other apps that work with private DNS enabled?
