Multi-Site Domain Controller Setup

Hey All!

Really new here and loving NextDNS so far!

I've got three sites in my Homelab with a AD / DNS server on each site which means I'll need my linked IP to come out of 3 different locations, I noticed I can only have one linked IP  per configuration?

Seems a bit of a messy solution having a separate configuration per site but I guess it's the best way with NextDNS's current feature set?

Love to hear your guys thoughts?

You only need linked IP with DNS v4.

You should read https://help.nextdns.io/category/knowledge-base especially Getting Started.

      losnad  Hey Dude :)

Really not sure what part of the Getting started page you're on about? I need to put forwarder IP's into MS DNS and I operate v4 networks, so it seems there isn't a large amount of choice?

      Or am I missing something?

It's not that much to read.

That your network uses IPv4 does not have any importance. You would be better if you use DoH or DoT. Look at the CLI if you can set it on your router https://nextdns.io/cli

      losnad 👋🏻

You’ve made some great suggestions but none are compatible with how Microsoft DNS forwarders work :) I’ll just setup multiple configurations for now until something else occurs :)

So if you set up DoH, DoT with or without Cli or app and you set up the forwarder to the local IP of the device with NextDNS does not work.

Anyway, I think I have enough smiles for today.
