This device is not using NextDNS.

This device is currently using ”Cloudflare” as DNS resolver.

I'm not sure why it still says this, I manually edited my DNS servers, and I'm using the IPs provided by NextDNS.

I am also using the App from the app store (the CLI app never works, I always get “permission denied” when I try to do anything with it).

What else can I do? I'd like this to work, especially since I decided to pay for the annual plan.

Thanks.

    Did you link the IP?

the CLI on Mac requires you to use sudo

      Thanks for replying.

I tried sudo, but it was still weird/buggy, so I uninstalled it via Brew. For what it's worth, the instructions never mention sudo.

I clicked “Link IP” and it has a green checkmark, but I still see the warning about not using NextDNS.

I believe sudo requirement is specific for MacOS vs other *nix due to Apple's security design.      Did you install it originally through brew or using the shell script?    I used the shell script.    I've been using  the CLI without issue since May 2021.

When you are using the app are you using Safari browser?   I believe Chrome and Firefox browsers do their own DNS lookup, rather than using the app or  OS.   The setup guide has entries specific to those browsers.

I used the MacOS instructions: https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki/MacOS

The webpage is telling me that I'm not using NextDNS, when I have it open in FF. The app is outside the browser, and is using my configuration ID. I'll try the browser-specific instructions on the webpage. Thanks!

Just for fun, see what it shows in Safari.    I bet it shows "This device is using NextDNS with this profile"

I made the changes to Firefox’s DNS-over-HTTPS settings to use the NextDNS IPs and Firefox is now okay. Safari said something about using an Akamai address, I forget the exact address and am currently away from my desk, but I think in general that I’m good with it for now.

    Thanks!

Glad to hear it’s working with Firefox!

Nextdns servers are colocated within the big providers networks, such as Cloudflare.  I haven’t heard of anyone seeing Akamai, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

    cheers

    This is still happening.
Safari reports it's not using NextDNS - but Firefox says it is. Screenshots attached.

I'm using the macOS app. I'm not sure what else to try, any tips are appreciated.

Switching off Apple Private Relay seems to fix this. But, I know other users who use NextDNS simultaneously with Private Relay and do not have this issue.  See this post for more.
