NextDNS with VPN on iOS/iPadOS?

Does anyone know of a VPN service that works with the NextDNS iOS and iPadOS app?  Prefer to not use profile because it’s much easier to disable NextDNS with the app.   I’m presently trying PIA and it seems their “custom DNS “ option only supports IPv4, which unfortunately doesn’t play well with logging nor is it a simple task to disable NextDNS without shutting down the VPN.

i am able to get PIA VPN working with profile, but unfortunately the NextDNS logs aren’t able to pick up the device name.   The logs show the IP address of the VPN exit node.

It appears most VPN providers have a 30 money back guarantee, so I’m ready to try a few to see if any of them will work easily with NextDNS.

Would be happy to hear from anyone using the NextDNS app on iPad or iPhone along with a VPN.

       Is Private DNS a feature of ProtonVPN?   I often see private DNS referred to as an option on Android, but not available on iOS

    Proton VPN won't allow custom servers on ios and ios won't allow you to run a VPN and DNS tool. There are some providers that allow you use to custom DNS within their VPNs. Pretty sure iVPN does?

       I think you may be correct about iPVN.   I am currently trying tailscale with Mullvad add-on and it seems to be working well.     It's slightly inconvenient to disable/enable NextDNS with this configuration, but it seems to be do-able.   Must be done within their web interface rather than locally, but it's working.     

      I learned that it's not possible to use Mullvad client when purchasing Mullvad as an add-on through tailscale.   I might try Mullvad as a standalone product next month when monthly Tailscale subscrption expires.

    On iOS, TotalAV (Local VPN) + DnsCloack (configuring separate stamps, one for each IP of your NextDNS profile. Search on Google this “Adding Custom DNS over HTTPS Resolvers to DNSCloak”, in medium[.]com. Post 2019 .

    Also configure in DnsCloack: DoH, TCP in reverse UDP, do not use local cache in this APP.

    Also install an Apple NextDNS profile on iOS. Thus, when you are not connected to the VPN, your communication will also be encrypted.
