Ultra Low not Working Correctly in Optus Mobile - Australia (Melbourne)
Olivier Poitrey Romain , can you please help and check the routing of Ultra Low Latency for Optus Mobile here in Melbourne, Australia? It seems it’s not working as expected?
Please see attached. When running ping.nextdns.io, it doesn’t show where I am connected.
When i am doing test.nextdns.io, it shows i am connected to Sydney, but i am here in Melbourne.
I’ve attached some photos since i cannot run diag in my iphone 11 pro.
Also, is there an issue with anycast 2? It’s going to zepto-lax which is Los Angeles? Isn’t that too far away from Australia?
thanks in advance for the help! xx

Olivier Poitrey Romain Cointepas , any updates on this? Do i need to provide anything else? This seems to be a routing or logic issue. I’m here to report to make the app better.
i think we need to fix the ULL routing for Melbourne and Anycast 2 ( should go anywhere in Australia instead of Zepto-Lax ). This only happens on mobile LTE - Optus Mobile. -
Which version of iOS are you using and what is the version of the NextDNS app?

Olivier Poitrey do i need to provide or run anything else? Is this routing hard to change or fix?

Olivier Poitrey any updates on this? ULL seems to still not working correctly in mobile here in Melbourne. The test.nextdns.io is showing different from ping.nextdns.io.
also Anycast 2 is still being routed to Zepto-Lax which is not Australia?

Those results don’t make sense... Can you please try with the profile instead of the app (https://apple.nextdns.io), and show the result of test again?

Seems like Optus have their DNS infra all centralized near Sydney for the whole country. This prevents ultralow from doing a better job for Optus customers far from Syd. This must cause the same issue for most CDNs like Akamai, who use the same steering technique.
They could fix that by enabling ECS in their resolver, or by adding more DNS PoPs in AU. We will contact them in that regard.
