Issues with Discord

I have constant weird issues with nextDNS when I run it through my router

- Its fine with the desktop client

-Its takes ages to load, sometimes messages dont get sent, e.t.c

I dont see anything in my blocked logs about discord, only random tracking stuff from other devices in my network.

I'd try to use OISD only as the first troubleshooting step, it's a filter that focuses on pure usability so if that doesn't fix it instantly, could require additional troubleshooting. Also check for Microsoft domains as they might use Microsoft's CDN etc as they own Discord now.

FInn Jäger did you use your router with DoT or DoH? If yes try with non encrypted version.

DynamicNotSlow hmm nope only used the unencrypted dns , just put the snd ips in my router (openWRT) and thats it.

FInn Jäger can you test your router without OpenWRT? It's known for problems

DynamicNotSlow No I can not, how is this known to any problems? Is a self build computer with a custom openWRT software called openMPTCProuter for WAN bonding. Works fine wirh pihole.

FInn Jäger you should test a non modified router with stock software

PiHole is also broken. And yes I use it for years - before I found NextDNS.

You can lastly try DoH or DoT as some protocols lead to better connection in terms of Ultra-Low/Anycast servers. Sometimes the routing by the ISP is bad so some problems end up happening.

Hey hmm, but its just DNS what could make discord just not load at all? I have no idea why this happens and why does not not happen with piHole or any other DNS that I try?  I cant do DoH or DoT via my router.

FInn Jäger you can use non-encrypted NextDNS in your router in that case.

FInn Jäger maybe try turning off the Anonymized EDNS Client Subnet option, it should help and it helps me in terms of getting regional servers for CDNs but I've seen a few people say that it was better with it off. You could try that, logically it should work better with it on but Incase some sort of problems with Routing with your ISP maybe it helps.

Hey Disabling "Anonymized EDNS Client Subnet" helped in my case - Thanks!

Hey I wonder how you notice the difference.
even Quad9 doesn’t enable this feature in default & recommend settings.

DynamicNotSlow some sites don't get impacted like YouTube as it runs through my ISP/Cache but certain sites that I use that routes through CDNs and Storage servers seem to route me better than others, not a whole lot of times but it works when it is necessary in my case.

A few lesser know CDNs offered by a Storage service were directing me better with it On than Off with my testing when I first saw a discussion about it.

I also saw some say that it makes it worse, for my case it works and logically it should work but well, I've seen the best CDNs get less than 1 MB/s on far higher speed internet because of routing and throttling by the ISP so there are so many variables at play that, I don't even know anymore.

Hey so the issue is still not fully fixed.

my desktop works fine, but mobile devices (iOS) still have the same issue.

Roman the only other recommendation would be to use OISD only, re-install the profile and the app to make sure that any other possible points of failure is avoided.

Still an issue today, fine on desktop app, fine on browser app on desktop, broken Android app. "connecting" forever. Anyone know which domains it's needing whitelisted?
