NextDNS app or native support?

I have an iPad (iOS 15), Samsung Note (Android 11), and a laptop (Windows 10).  With respect to the iPad and phone, I can use either native support for NextDNS; or I can use the respective NextDNS app.  For the laptop, I can use either the NextDNS app or YogaDNS.  In all three cases (iPad, phone, and laptop); what are the pros/cons with respect to security, privacy, features, & performance when choosing between the various options?

If you ask me go Native as much as possible. There are less points of failure. On mobile side your battery optimization might kill it, if you turn it off (battery optimization) it might use some battery notthing to impact a new phone/device but for older devices that could still be precious and just another piece of software running. So for your IPad and your Galaxy phone I would say yeah just use their native supported options. For windows I don't think there is a native switch other than manually setting up the DNS could be useful if your IP is static but if it isn't that is iffy at best so you can pick the application that suites your need I can't comment on that.

The answer depends on the platform.

On iOS/iPad, our app is leveraging the native DoH support, so it does not make a difference except you have an easy access to on/off toggle and a simple UI to exclude WiFi networks.

On Android, we use a VPN trick to provide DoH as this platform does not support it natively. If your network does not block DoT you can use the native "Private DNS" feature which will have less issues with other VPN and probably lower battery impact (not proven though).

On Windows, before Windows 11, you don't have much choice other than our app (which use a VPN trick) or YogaDNS (which use a WFP callout driver, tending to have less issues with third party VPNs). Windows 11 ships with native DoH support, but the interface is a bit rough. Our native app does automatically detect Windows 11's support and use the native DoH without the hassle of using netsh by hand.

For linux and routers installs we recommend our CLI.
