Strange routing causing very high latency (Toronto -> Nigeria?)

I'm near Toronto, Canada. NextDNS normally routes my DNS requests to a local server in Toronto. However, after experiencing a massive slowdown browsing responsiveness, I discovered that my DNS resolvers are now in Nigeria, with ~500ms latency??

I also ran the diagnostic tool but not sure if it shows the same:

Why is this happening? Until it's fixed I can't use the service... it's painfully slow.
