Short DNS Resolution?

Is there a way for Next to resolve shortnames local to the network without outside software?

I'd like to resolve https://HVAC for our local system to resolve to a 192.168.1.10 or something like that.  Seems like it should be able to since its doing all the work already.  Thanks.
