Amazon and PayPal App won't work properly on Android

PayPal app and Amazon app crash with NextDNS. I think the privacy list is causing this but I am not sure.

The only privacy list I have is oisd.

If I disable NextDNS the apps work correctly again,so it has something to be with NextDNS.

In PayPal I can't get past the Fingerprint Login screen, it gets into a endless loop.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

These are the things that get blocked when I open the Amazon app and the PayPal app.

Same issue here. Been happening for weeks. On different occasions I've added these to my AllowList to work around it, but alas, no success.

I keep on having to disable NextDNS on my phone, wait a minute or two (close app, wait, reopen 2 or 3 times) before I can then use it.

Is it possible to curate a public list to allow Amazon Shopping for Android? btw I'm an Amazon UK user (noticed op is on DE) if that makes a difference.

Just a note, that the PayPal app lets me login fine with NextDNS enabled.

    Thanks

Ally Wilson do you also use the oisd privacy list?

Devid I do not. I only have the "NextDNS Ads & Trackers Blocklist" enabled.

When using the non default NextDNS blocklist, you might have to do some curation as we do provide those list unaltered from upstream.

Olivier Poitrey tonight I will set the default privacy list and remove all other lists and test if the apps work fine. I will post here the result.

Devid I tested it and can say that the oisd list is the problem.

I will check with the oisd website and ask there if this is a known problem.

It says something went wrong on their end. So have you tried turning off all blocking to see if it works then? And then turn on blocking again to see if it the problem returns.

Edit: ignore what was written here.

sjhgvr yes when I turn off the blocking list oisd everything works correctly. I have contacted the oisd reddit community, let's see if they find the problem.

Devid I'm sjhgvr (the oisd guy).

Running an update that should fix the problem.

(Removing all *.amazon-adsystem.com from the list)

sjhgvr So I run the tests few times and this is what I get every time.

It blocks the authentication, for some reason the authentication (Fingerprint Authentication) does not want to proceed.

Devid So you see 2 domains being blocked. You should have the ability to whitelist domains in NextDNS correct? Try which one fixes the problem for you.

      sjhgvr it is

      googleads.g.doubleclick.net

adding this to the whitelist solves the problem with the PayPal app. Really strange actually.

Devid Strange enough for me to keep that domain listed until more issues on it appear.  Sorry for that.

At least good we found out what the problem is :)

Do you have "allow affiliate & tracking links" disabled and/or the "block page" enabled?

I had a problem with the Amazon android app and the Wells Fargo Android app and those things were the culprits. The affiliate/tracking option allows amazon to work without having to manually whitelist amazon ad domains and enabling the block page without installing the corresponding root CA reports a false negative "service unavailable" prompt that prevents you from logging into the Wells Fargo app to access your bank account

Haven't had problems with paypal but I only have googleads.g.doubleclick.net whitelisted since I play mobile games on Android & most of their in-game ad rewards are served through that specific google ad domain
