OPNSense CLI

Is there any news on the OPNSense NextDNS CLI?

In the GitHub repository for the CLI it says Soon, any ETA?

I've followed this tutorial but it's not working correctly, most clients seem to be using the DNS servers that i have to configure in opnsense DNS settings in System -> Settings -> General. Without this there is no DNS Resolve even with the CLI running.

I really would like to use NextDNS.

+1. It would seem 'soon' is measured in years? Paying customer here... would love to see Opnsense finally supported as currently it isn't working correctly.

Came across this thread but cannot really understand why it exists as nextdns-cli works fine on OPNSense as per the config and installation instructions provided by @hugo_c already. I've been running it for about a year in a split horizon setup with dnsmasq running on alternate port to provide local LAN hostname resolution in conjunction with NextDNS for external resolution. I've verified using https://dnsleaktest.com that nextdns-cli was working and not just the DNS settings under OPNSense 'System > Settings > General' (which I do still have set for the same reasons Derek's blog indicated).

If you are having a specific issue with nextdns-cli under OPNSense it would be good to post detailed information on your OPNSense and nextdns-cli config so others can help troubleshoot the issue further. Most issues I've seen are folks still running Unbound, dnsmasq, or OpenDNS on the default port (53) which won't work for obvious reasons.

The CLI exists, except hilariously it's not made by NextDNS, but fully works with it (including client info).
