Very slow speed when VPN and NextDNS are in use together

When I use NextDNS and a VPN in conjunction (I have tried it with NordVPN and PrivateVPN) I get very slow connection speeds. As soon as I disconnect from NextDNS, the speed over the VPN goes up considerably. Is there anything that can be done about it?

    I'm using nextdns with nordvpn and everything works fine. Speed is also good.
