Is there a way to block Newly Active Domains?

Hi, I recently subscribed to NextDNS. I really like the Newly Active Domain blocking feature of dns0.eu/zero

“Newly Active Domains (NAD)

Block domains that, after having been dormant for a while, are suddenly becoming active. This behavior is more often than not a sign of malicious activity.”

I wonder if that’s an option here?

    Hi there,

There is indeed such a feature. It is located in the "Security" section. It is called "Block Newly Registered Domains (NRDs)" and will block domains registered less than 30 days ago.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheerio

That setting is similar to what @64rn_5h4 was asking about but they wanted newly ACTIVE domains not newly REGISTERED domains.

Indeed! My bad, I misread that.

But now I would like such a feature as well.

Yes, as of my experience with it, there is a way to block newly active domains using NextDNS, which is especially useful for securing AI laptops, where preventing access to potentially harmful or suspicious domains is crucial for both data privacy and system integrity.

NextDNS provides a feature called "Newly Registered Domains" (NRD) blocking, which allows you to automatically block domains that were recently registered or have become active. This is particularly important since many phishing or malicious activities originate from such domains before they can be categorized or flagged.

Here’s how you can enable this feature in NextDNS:

    1. Log in to your NextDNS dashboard.
    2. Go to Security settings.
    3. Enable the Block Newly Registered Domains option.

This setting helps in proactively securing your AI laptops by blocking access to domains that haven’t yet established trustworthiness, adding an extra layer of security. In environments where AI laptops are used for sensitive tasks, this feature can help mitigate risks from zero-day threats or newly emerging attack vectors.

NextDNS offers granular control, so you can customize the blocklist and even allow exceptions if needed, ensuring that your AI-driven workflows are both protected and efficient.

The topic started asked if there is a way to block "Newly Active Domains (NAD)", as in the dns0.eu/zero project:

"Block domains that, after having been dormant for a while, are suddenly becoming active. This behavior is more often than not a sign of malicious activity."

And this is currently not possible with nextDNS. Not yet, at least.

That user is likely just spam bot, notice the link for an "AI laptop" that made no sense

I know, it smelled somehow like that. But anyways, My answer fits and hopefully helps others, no matter if it was a spambot or not.

I don't understand why the developers of dns0.eu cannot bring feature parity with NextDNS.
