Problems using DNS over TLS on Android

Hello Everyone, I'm having some problems when trying to use Dns over TLS on android, when configuring via private DNS directly in the smartphone settings, 4G mobile data stops working, this occurs with several models of android Smartphones. I have no problems using DNS over TLS on my Asus router, but it is impossible to use it on my Smartphone.

I'm configuring it like this:

My--Smartphone-yyyy.dns.nextdns.io

Could your mobile data provider be blocking the private dns connection? You could try a DoH client, see if that works on mobile data.

R P M I can activate DoH through the chrome browser, but still I would like to activate DNS over TLS at System Level 😕 If the operator is blocking DNS requests over TLS there is nothing that can be done...

There is no solution for this situation ?

Felipe Soares Have you tried the NextDNS Android app? That should give you DoH systemwide.

Felipe Soares R P M mentioned the official NextDNS Android app to forward DoH systemwide, but another option would be to use the Nebulo app. It allows you to switch between DoT and DoH (albeit manually). It also lets you pause forwarding temporarily and exclude certain apps that may break or have other configs (e.g. browsers, banking, or online shopping).

Felipe Soares To add to what everyone is saying, if in-fact the Carrier is blocking DoT like how my carrier does. There is no real way to use it as they block the port, but as both RPM and Astra mentioned DoH clients work just fine. If you don't want to deal with any apps, you can also put your config on the Browser to have the most annoying things taken care of, hopefully Android adds DoH support soon.

Both solutions worked perfectly, the NextDNS app and Nebulo app I decided to use the official NextDNS app, and it is working on 4G normally. Thanks guys ! 😉
