Disconnection issues

Is it possible to have a solution or guide line of troubleshooting? I pay for a service choosing nextDNS for specific features like web filtering. So I have a DNS provider which lag and block traffic. Every day, more or less, I am expiriencing disconnection and DNS probe for a couple of minutes up to ten minutes. I tried to disable all Security configuration switch. No specific event logged which represents specific blocks. I have no idea why I am expiriencing these events...obviously I have implemented parental control configuration. I want to block specific matters like Gambling, porn and social media. But I can not esperienced specific block about social or Porn or Gambling related of these blocks. Great frustration...

Gianmario, what disconnection you are talking about? Are you using a router? Loosing internet connection? Are you sure, this is a DNS problem? Try to clarify your situation. Use AI mode and describe step by step your observation. Maybe it is not a dns issue? Buona giornata ;)

Daniel thanks to reply me. I did not reach your link. So I am talking about disconnection every two three days without reason. DNS Probe NX Domain not reachable. Lost connection with nextDNS servers for about five minutes. No possible to surf. No specific block domain onto the log or any other indication. It is very frustrating. Now I disabled every configuration on Security tab and Privacy to try as well this configuration. No way. Periodically zac! I lost connection towards DNS. Support from nextDNS team equal at zero.

A DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error means your browser cannot reach a website because the domain name system failed to find it. The "NXDOMAIN" part stands for "Non-Existent Domain". When using NextDNS, this error usually occurs when the site is blocked by your security filters, your local DNS cache is outdated, or the NextDNS profile ID is incorrectly entered. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Here is a step-by-step guide to fix it, from the quickest local checks to NextDNS specific settings:

    1. Check if the site is blocked

Because NextDNS is a secure DNS firewall, you may have accidentally blocked the site. [1, 2]

    • Open your browser and go to the NextDNS Dashboard.
    • Select your profile and click on the Denylist tab.
    • Check if the website you are trying to visit is listed there and delete it if it is.
    • Check the Privacy and Security tabs to ensure certain categories (like malware or parental controls) aren't too strict. [1, 2, 3]

    2. Verify your NextDNS profile ID

If your profile ID is typed incorrectly in your device or router, it will search for a non-existent configuration, causing NXDOMAIN errors. [1, 2]

    • Visit the NextDNS Setup Guide to confirm the exact ID you are supposed to be using.
    • Compare this string with the hostname or setup profile configured in your router, computer, or the NextDNS App. [1]

    3. Flush your DNS cache

Your computer stores the locations of previously visited websites in its memory. If this gets corrupted or outdated, it will fail to connect. [1]

    • Windows: Press the Windows Key, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
    • macOS: Open the Terminal. Type sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder and press Enter. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

    4. Test your NextDNS connection

You can easily verify if NextDNS is operating properly by visiting test.nextdns.io. If the page returns an "All Good!" status, your DNS routing is working normally. [1]

    5. Temporarily test alternative DNS

To isolate whether NextDNS or your local device is the problem, switch your computer to a public DNS. [1]

    • Go to your network or Wi-Fi settings.
    • Under DNS server settings, manually enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS).
    • If the website loads normally, you have confirmed that the issue stems from your NextDNS configuration. [1, 2, 3]

If the issue continues, let me know:

    • What device are you using (Windows, Mac, or Smartphone)?
    • Are you connected via a router (with NextDNS set at the network level) or using the app/private DNS on a specific device?

I can give you exact, step-by-step configuration steps tailored to your setup.
