VPN with NextDNS simple question...
Hi everybody!
I am connected to a VPN while using NextDNS
If I go in my NextDNS account logs, I can see everything going thru the VPN IP. Does this mean all of the DNS queries from my laptop go thru the VPN before reaching NextDNS servers?
Or, all of the DNS queries bypass the VPN?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Depends on if your VPN uses a different DNS server then NextDNS. If your using nextdns as your dns provider and connected to a vpn service that doesn't force or use a different dns server; then your networks dns is still going through NextDNS. DNS is only one of the many pieces of the puzzle for networking.
Some VPN services require or have a setting to change your devices DNS settings to use their DNS servers; and that point you would be completely bypassing NextDNS for dns requests.
If you go to your https://my.nextdns.io and check under the 'setup' tab, it will show you if your current device is making dns requests to NextDNS. -
A VPN is just going to encrypt and package up your networking traffic over udp/tcp not dns. So thats why NextDNS shows all your network traffic going through the VPN, because it technically is.
