MacOS: NextDNS CLI + Proton VPN App

Usually the NextDNS + VPN questions are already asked and answered but I have one that I can’t find an answer to.

I have been using the Wireguard app on MacOS to use both NextDNS (DoH) and Proton VPN simultaneously. It works, but lacking the automatic connection to the fasted server feature found in the official Proton app is not ideal. 

Does anyone have experience running the NextDNS CLI and the Proton VPN app (or any other “official” VPN app) simultaneously on MacOS? Since the Proton VPN app and NextDNS app/profile don’t work together, I am thinking the CLI may be a way to get both running.
