Parental control - can easily be disabled

Would it be possible to prevent disabling of the application by a normal user?  Can we at least hide the system tray icon?  Currently, disabling the filter is just a right click away for the child.

No, why? Provide a proper tray icon that can be protected or requires an additional approval to deactivate!

  • Here's your next problem:

    Linux Live Boot USB

now the user (teen) has circumvented 100% of your software restrictions that were running on the machine because they are no longer booting windows.

    and then:

    backdoor bios passwords
    borrowing neighbors' wifi
    free vpn
    juno or netzero
    raspberry pi

m e Eh, that's too much work when simply switching the DoH on browser is enough.

  • I stopped using it unfortunately.  My child's computer ground to a halt with everything locking up after installing.  Everything was so slow.   I had to uninstall it and revert to cloudflare to make the computer working again.

  • I've configured my kid's Mac such that it  requires a password to make any changes to wifi, DNS, etc. And the nextdns app itself is password protected.

  • Until you can mitigate the concerns of m e  you are largely wasting time using technology in lieu of parenting.

    ACL

or install as system.  Disallow child an administrator group account.

or inflict dns from router. use router rules to quietly redirect all dns to nextdns. (pfSense)

  • Definitely a very weak parental control is a child can simply right-click and choose disable...

  • I was successful using the CLI link provided. Please not the program path needs to be enclosed in quotes and one backslash removed:

    Corrected command below:

    “C:\Program Files\NextDNS\nextdns.exe” install ^

      -config <your config_id> ^

      -report-client-info ^

      -auto-activate
