curl example to add / remove denylist item via rest api

I have been trying a bunch of things on the API.  I know I am in because I can read my profiles just fine and get nice json back on GET. But I want to POST to create a new item in the denylist and for the life of me I cannot get it to work with curl....

can someone post a working curl example of either a PATCH or POST for this type of action?
