Mac M1 with generated profile sending part of queries to unidentified devices

Greetings,

My Macbook Pro M1 has been configured to use the next DNS profile, it works for some queries, but others get sent to the Unidentified devices list in the logs.

My router has the DNS configured as well, just to be able to see what my TV and other non computer devices are up to.

Is there a way to configure my mac properly?

I have somehow the same issue and since I use NextDNS I never found out what it really was. I hope we will find an answer

@storm I'm seeing the same thing. Anyone have any solutions?

Perhaps some apps use cached IP addresses for certain requests, and nextDNS is doing reverse lookups on the other end for the sake of the logs?

If you're using a chromium based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave etc) they use an internal DNS client which bypasses the profile, which is a possible explanation for your issue.

Thanks for weighing in. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be likely in my case, as I use Safari 95% of the time and Firefox 5%. Further, the DNS requests I'm seeing are from messaging apps such as Slack and Signal. But perhaps they have similar internal DNS implementations?
