NextDNS profile/app not working on iOS with VPN

VPN enabled, and NextDNS app enabled, but DNS queries are not being handled by NextDNS.

Everything was working fine up till today, and this only affects iOS. MacOS is fine with VPN and NextDNS config working together.

Using NorVPN app downloaded from app store

Activated custom DNS within the NordVPN iOS app

Entered the server information/address from NextDNS into custom DNS section of NordVPN app, with profile installed from NextDNS

Usually can see DNS queries coming from phone into NextDNS portal, but this stopped working since last week.

Analysis:

Checked https://browserleaks.com/ip and IP address was NordVPN

But DNS leak check says DNS server was also NordVPN --> this should be using NextDNS DNS servers.

Was working as it should be until the start of this week.

When I disable NordVPN app on phone, I can see all queries going through NextDNS.

When I enable NordVPN (or other VPN), queries stop going through NextDNS.

Both VPN and NextDNS was working fine together until this week as mentioned.

  Seems more likely it’s an issue with NordVPN. There are other recent complaints about custom DNS servers not working with them.
