steering.nextdns.io Eating Up My Free NextDNS Quota – What Is It and How to Reduce It?

Hi Support Team,

I've been using NextDNS on my Windows PC, and I recently noticed that a large number of DNS queries are being made to steering.nextdns.io. After checking, I found that these requests do count towards the free monthly quota of 300,000 queries, and they're consuming it quite fast.

From what I understand, this domain is part of NextDNS's own infrastructure—so I'm wondering:

What's the purpose of these steering.nextdns.io queries?

Why are there so many of them?

Is there a way to reduce or stop them?

Shouldn’t queries to internal NextDNS domains be excluded from the quota?

Would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this.

Thanks !

They are used by the status page to test your configuration. They are only queried when you are on this page.

Do you have the block page enabled? steering.nextdns.io is shown as the block page when a domain is blocked.
