Block favicons

With the latest news about favicons being used for tracking and fingerprinting, is it possible to filter or block favicons through NextDNS? Is this a feature that can be added?

    You can use Firefox with these settings if you worry about this problem:

    browser.shell.shortcutFavicons = false
    browser.chrome.favicons = false
    browser.chrome.site_icons = false

      Sergey Twersky Firefox actually is safe due to a known bug that stop's FavIcons from being saved and remembered. Thus , Firefox has to download the data fresh every time and report to the server its a new connection. In comparison to how it would normally work where the FavIcon incorporates the times the user has connected and the means they did that.

      It's concerning how many ways these companies have at gathering intel on people and their usage without their permission. Even, if you block cookies, the favicon process apparently stores the data is a completely separate place that isnt cleared when users select Cache , Temp Folders etc.

      I have a feeling this will be a hot topic and hopefully be addressed by those services who believe in privacy.

    Many of my family members are using iOS devices, I’m afraid desktop browser customisations aren’t the solution in my use case.

    Favicons are most probably hosted on the site itself, so they will have the same hostname as the website (but different path/URL). That means you can’t block them using DNS.

    Bisogna stare attenti soprattutto al favicons.nextdns.io poiché viene compromesso più di quando si pensi. In primis BLOCCARE IMMEDIATAMENTE il file FAVICON del nostro NEXTDNS favicons.nextdns.io 😉
