  • Yes please.   It would be great to add this... Open DNS had this for free, but it's be happy to pay for this

  • A custom block page is much needed. Other dns providers offer this. Please add an option for this.

remove any hinting of the provider (remove the text/logo NextDNS) to slow circumventing research by the naive.

I understand requests for custom blocking images would quickly become a resource hog.  Alternatively allow paid users to provide a cloud hosted URL like BackBlaze or Accelerated S3 or cloudfront.  Yes, pay yer own way.

    • Romain Cointepas simple logo and text. Nothing more complex....  Please see what open DNS offer of you were able to offer a custom page that would be better, but I would be happy with the basics at least 😀

I would like the ability to "click through" and get to the intended page.
Could be with a configurable option to allow it for the various reasons a page is blocked: privacy, security, parental control or denylist.

Using "NextDNS Ads & Trackers Blocklist" is great, but many search results in Google are being blocked. When I really need to get to a page, it is annoying I have to reconfigure, clear cache etc.
Would like it just be a warning, and ability to continue anyway.

Security needs to be easy, or people find ways to circumvent it.

Why hasn't this been implemented yet? I have 8 schools and 3 businesses that I'd like to purchase subscriptions for but I need a custom block page.

    • Romain Cointepas  Hi Romain, our vision would be to offer alternatives to the blocked pages so we would need to be able to publish a normal html page with no limitations if possible. Thanks

Romain Cointepas We have been waiting for this about a year now. Would you mind to share your difficulties, like roadblocks? We really need this, especially for schools networks. Thank you so much!

  • will be great to have the following pages:

    1. To inform that a specific site was blocked by NextDNS

    2. To test if you are using NextDNS as a DNS resolver

    3. To test the Security Settings of our configuration

4, To test Content filtering for our configuration

There is a thing that shows of a domain is block for the end user it is under setting/blockage

To test if you are using nextdns you can go to test.nextdns.io

And I also would like the last two things you mentioned

+1 on this!  Would be happy to point it to my own domain or IP page for blocks.

  • Also think this would a great idea. That being said I love how accessible the analytics page is, similar to Cloudflare teams which I’ve used before but prefer NextDNS.

On the frontpage under "more features" it is listed:

    Customizable Block Page
Customize the optional page that shows up when a domain is being blocked.

Being able to turn it on and off hardly makes it customizable.

For me personally the looks it not that important. But being allowed to click through would be valuable. Especially if it is just blocked by an ad & tracker list. Or maybe even optional which blocking reasons that allow click through.

It could be implemented by returning a really low TTL on the query response that leads to the blocking page.

  • I would be happy with allowing a custom redirection address so when a domain is blocked it would be redirected to your block page.

Also even a simple customization such as  a toggle to displaying a proceed link would be really appreciated.

Main guy at NextDNS replied to this ONE YEAR ago, and still nothing has been done. Really poor.

  • I also would appreciate the ability to customize the blockpage. Just an option like “hide logo” would be amazing, to avoid users from discovering the source of the blockage.

Also adding support / request for ability to allow blocked pages to be bypassed by the end user from the block page. ie a ‘soft warn page’ instead / as well as a ‘hard block page’.

Appreciate that not all users would want this, but there’s always a balance between security/privacy and usability. Each NextDNS user will have their own needs - some will be happy with a ‘speed bump’ / warn approach which simply alerts the end user that the site is doing X or Y, and allow the end user discretion to continue.

Ideally this would be configurable based on the type of block. For me, if it’s blocked due to the explicit deny list then I probably want to force block that. But if it’s just blocking a Google Shopping Ad or similar I’m probably ok with the end user going ahead if they can’t find another way to access the content they need.

UBlock Origin has a flow which works well for the above - of course, that’s working at the browser level as opposed to DNS, so I’m not suggesting this makes it easy for NextDNS to implement, just pointing to a user experience that illustrates this type of feature in action.

    thanks!

The ability to customise and remove NextDNS logo/branding also makes sense for those using the paid service in organisations to make circumventing slightly more onerous.
