99% ott my devices use the DNS from the Profile. But sometimes, when on Wifi, it uses my router DNS (NextDNS CLI). It duplicates devices

So it can be my iPhone, my iPad, my MacBook, they ALL have some Apple Config Profile installed. There’s no SSID settings, they should use this config ALL THE TIME.

But every so often, when connected to my home network (the DNS is a Raspberry Pi running NextDNS CLI), they do some DNS queries via my home network DNS, the NextDNS CLI.

This is not a huge problem but since it’s not using the same route to connect to NextDNS, in my logs and stats I have one entry which is via the Apple Config File and one which is via NextDNS CLI, making a lot of my devices “duplicates” when I try to look for logs and stats.

Does anyone have a fix for that ? Do you know why it happens ?

Do you need more info ?

Thanks in advance and I wish you all a beautiful day.

This is unfortunately expected behaviour. When one device first connects to your home WiFi there will be a few lookups while it’s setting up the configuration profile.

It’s one pitfall of setting up NextDNS in two different ways. At least you can tell the difference between the two devices in logs.
