I would think it was because you used “dead” rather than “no longer maintained”. And in light of maintainer ill health, might be seen as upsetting and not appropriate.

Just a guess on my part. I don’t know the exact reason.

The devs need to remove it regardless of the word I used.

I think it doesn't matter if the blocklist is maintained or not? MVPS hosts are not on NextDNS's default blocklist, so it shouldn't be a problem. You just need to choose the blocklist that is useful and under maintenance!

If there's blocklists not being maintained anymore, or it's been quite awhile since the last update, they should simply be deleted from the site.

Lone Wolf The problem with that approach is if there are users that still use that list you'll be breaking their flow. Most people don't check the lists regularly, and especially those who use NextDNS as setup and forget solution will be really annoyed.

Martheen I've talked with them before on this subject a while ago and honestly their answer is extremely logical. They said that as people wanted to use those filters, removing them could also hurt their experience, outdated etc someone can easily see that and avoid using it, if they want to use it, they have the choice to do so.

From all the years I've used the service, I know that their approach is to allow a user to do whatever they like without getting in their way and there is no easy way to fix depreciated lists as if they aren't removed it seems like they don't update their lists and if they are removed the users who choose to use them are going to be unhappy.

I don't think the users won't notice though, as the filters aren't updated, they'll have an increase in false positives and will check their config to see that yeah it stopped getting updates, if they choose to continue using it, as outdated as the filters are it's their choice at the end.

Martheen I must be talking Russian... I am referring to outdated blocklists that aren't being maintained anymore!!! Whoever needs a blocklist, they should pick one that gets updated on a regular basis. The one's I choose are updated every day or even every few hours.
