Unique client names under analytics

I am trying to delineate between a few devices , there a multiple devices named "iPad" ; cannot distinguish between the two.

I am used to DNS names being pulled from client's hostname's; then if required, you can rename. I cannot figure out where to rename client devices or tell the app to pull from the host name during initial setup.

The only thing I can think of, this is behind a paywall and require a subscription.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

Currently using pi-hole; testing out NextDNS, loving it; however there are some gotcha's

In your NextDNS dashboard, there's an option to create a configuration profile, there you can give a unique name for each profile you create and deploy them accordingly, don't even need the app.

Thanks for this, I understand I can create unlimited profiles. I want 1 profile for my 87 devices, I do not want to create 87 different profiles. prefer to have 1 profile with 87 devices which all have unique names

I’m having the same issue.   I read on a different thread this problem is due to privacy protections added in iOS and iPadOS 16.x

The best way would be to install nextdns cli https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki

This is installed on the router. This can be configured in such a way that you will see your devices hostname on the logs under one single nextdns profile. It is for much more than just that but check it out, you just might have the hardware for it and find it useful for things you didn't even know.

Also, though I haven't used an iPad in years, you should be able to change the iPad's device name under settings/about/name See if that helps.

The other way would be the good old way of remembering your devices LAN/WLAN IPs ~_^

Interesting read, I cannot apply this to my router, perhaps clients, yes. Thanks,
